Long time coming
by Luke Ormand
Just returned from another trip to South Florida and while I only picked up one new species of bird I got a lot of great images of birds I rarely see/photograph up here, including the pied-billed grebe. This is a shot I've been after since the first time I spotted this bird years ago. It's very difficult to get anywhere near these birds on Long Island, but of course Florida is a different story, especially when you are talking about Green Cay Wetlands which is where this was shot. While I don't like how difficult it is to stick your lens between the slats on the boardwalk - they act as a really nice blind which allows you to get nice and close to the birds.
