San Juan Sunrise

by Wick Smith

Gallery: LandscapePosted January 26, 2013390 views13 comments
This was taken in the San Juan Mountains - SW Colorado. This was a single image just after sunrise with the color in the sky only lasting about 5 minutes.

The image looks a bit "overcooked" in NPN on my monitor. That was not the intent.

Please view large for more detail.

The image looks fine to me, and on my calibrated monitor. You have a nice, well balanced composition, and have processed the image well. However, and that said, if anything in your image looks "over-cooked," it may be the clouds. But as is, they're still fine with me.

Very strong comp and very dramatic light. Really enjoying all the detail even in the smaller version.

I don't think it looks "cooked" at all, Wick. The only thing I noticed that looks a little odd is that one oval shaped cloud on the far left side in the middle, the outside of the cloud looks fine while the center looks a bit hot. That's certainly some nice light, and I like the little snow patches in the FG as well.

Wick, I really like this image. For starters, its well composed and its a very nice perspective of Gilpin Peak. The small patches of snow in the foreground really adds some nice interest and balance too. You have some really nice even lighting throughout the image as well which makes your claim "one image" believable. A keeper for sure!

Wonderful explosion of color in the sky Wick which is very well complimented by the glow of color in the foreground. Exquisite mountain scene.

It's just a tad overcooked IMO but a great image never the less.

This doesn't look overcooked at all to me Wick. There is something about the warm color on the rock on the left side, as well as the background peak that gives this image an excellent feeling fo depth. The sky also comes across as very genuine. Often times our work gets a bit tweaked when we save for the web, but this looks just fine for me -- and if the original looks even better, than I can only imagine how that looks on your computer. Please make sure to print this one -- I think it will look downright 3D on paper.
