Blue Basin

Just did a re-work of this one taken at John Day National Monument. This blue-green rock layer represents millions of years of volcanic ash accumulation. The green tint is not due to copper, but rather a complex blending of the elements hydrogen, oxygen, sodium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, potassium, calcium, iron, strontium, and barium.

Camera Settings: ISO 100, 17mm @ f/16, 6.0 sec

Thanks for your comments!

Fascinating geology. Great contrast with the colors. Overall the saturation feels a little to dominant here, but that's always a matter of personal opinion.

The colors are just excellent in this. Stong comp and the sky color goes well with the lanscape without taking attention away from it. Beautiful image.

This is why I prefer NPN above all other sites; best place for constructive and insightful feedback.

Tony, just curious what monitor your using? iMac looks great on my end but had some feedback on saturation in other posts as well so wondering if I need to dial it back a couple points for web posts.

Beautiful color contrast. I also love the comp and the vertical format really works well here.

I like this quite well, Drew. The geology is fascinating and provides some otherworldly color and contrast. I think it would definitely be worth revisiting this composition with some more color in the sky - particularly if you could capture a warm / cool contrast in the sky that would compliment the color in the foreground. An abstract image that isolates parts of the landscape could also be effective.

These are some incredible colors in the foreground rocks and a turquoise landscape. I also like the leading lines of the dry creek in the middle. I would consider emphasizing the rocks more by cropping out the sky making this more into a mid-range shot. The sky color doesn't quite match up is the reason why. I too use an 27" imac and the saturation looks good, here and on your real nice website. Beautiful work Drew!

Nice work. I think the vertical orientation is great. I agree with Brian's comments about the sky adjustments and exploring an abstract. Love that orange rock.
