Foggy Gorge

We had an all day fog event yesterday, with mostly moderate density fog. I went to visit the Northwest Branch Gorge, a linear oasis just outside of the DC beltway, where the Nortwest Branch of the Anacostia crosses the fall line. At this point, the river is surrounded by dense suburbs so it fits perfectly with a local Naturalist Society's motto of "Wild places are closer than you think". (5D3, 24-70 f2.8 @ 25 mm, f/16, 0.5 s, tripod and polarizer) Processed with TK's triple play and some luminosity painting.

The colors are very subtle and natural looking, and I really like the way you composed this. Pretty scene indeed Mark.

Nice view, Mark! I haven't been to this section yet. The mist in the bg is nice and I think your SS is right on. Nicely done

A strong and convincing composition for me, Mark. I appreciate the wet surface of the foregeound rocks, it gives me a feel of standing in the middle of the scene. Your choice of shutter speed is spot on to my eye and shows the stunning dynamics of the cascades.

I like the comp and overal look. This looks like the middle of a wilderness. Good job taking advantage of the nice conditions, Mark.

Mark, great composition here, like the soft colours and foggy mood. The fall background draws me in over the water to take the whole scene in. :toast:

Mark I think you've done a real nice job here. It is very realistic in color and mood. I like your choice to leave a view into the woods in the background. I like this a lot!! Chet

Nice work Mark! I really like this image! This might be even better if there were some snow on the ground. If you ever get any in the DC area:)
