Just going through some images from last year that I haven't processed. I ran across this image and thought it would make a really nice black and white. Let me know what you think, I was thinking about reworking the sky a little bit to balance out the tones? Check the large version.

Sweet B/W conversion! I agree about the sky.

Yep, the large one is a joy to view. Classic B&W treatment with a great range of tones. :toast:

very nice, Todd. I love the white cliff on the right and the great sense of depth and the mesas in the far distance. Chet

This is a case where the thumbnail doesn't do the image justice. I'm glad that I opened the image to view it at full size. I especially like the character of the tree and the way that it mimics the lines in the canyon as it branches out. The foreground and RHS rocks frame the image nicely as well.

For me, the b&w conversion emphasizes the starkness of the landscape. I really like the foreground tree and the distant canyon and buttes. Great job.

Todd,

This works beautifully as a b&w. Personally I think the processing in general and the sky in particular work beautifully; I like the high contrast and tonal range, gives the image a bit of an edge which is working very well in this grand landscape.

Hey, didn't you catch Michael Hardeman's image from a couple weeks ago? Scroll back about 3 or 4 pages.... ;-)

Lon, Yes i commented on it, I guess the tree just begs to be included., I shot this is June 2010 and processed it this week. I have a bad habit of putting images on the back burner if I think they're initially good, and then forget about them. My new years esolution is to get them processed.

I wouldnt touch the sky, personally, unless you don't like its effect when printed. It's drama works and helps balance out the fg shrub.

Wonderful depiction of an iconic scene. Love the way the branches mimic the patterns in the grand landscape.
