Happy New Year everyone! Here's a shot from our tour to the Ibera Marshes in Argentina in 2011. The Ibera Marshes rank up there with the Pantanal in Brazil and the Llanos in Venezuela as the most important wetlands for birds and wildlife in South America. I photographed this Chimango Caracara taking off at last light,it's cropped to vertical, about 55% of FF. I am travelling and don't have access to making a larger version.

A shame we cannot see a large version, as the small one is a great shot.

Love the background and the fact that this has some action in it. It looks sharp in this size image, as well. The position of the bird is perfect and exposure seems dead on. Because the wings are raised as they are, it gives us a good view of the overall coloration of this beautiful bird. Great capture! By the way, good luck with your tour in Ecuador later this month. Been a bit rainy lately in Cuenca.

Thanks Paul, I appreciate it. In Santo Domingo, it has just started to rain a bit and has been a dry fall I hear. Thanks everyone else for your comments.

Wonderful shot. It almost looks like taxidermy, which in case you are wondering is a compliment.
