Preying Mantis

Hi Holly, this is a fun image. I like how this little ceature is just peeking into the frame. I do find myself wishing the preying mantis was sharper. Nice BG.

This is super cute! I really like the composition! Do you apply some sort of stylized filter? It looks more like a painting!

I like how stylized this is with the large blobs of color in the background and the mantis peeking out at the viewer. Having spent some time photographing a mantis last summer, I know that an antennae pointing right at the camera can completely disappear and I'm guessing that's what happened here, but it is a bit disconcerting.

He does look old...Having looked at other photos taken at the same time, I think his antenna is behind his head, but it could be infront. No filters were used, I guess the background is from the extreme closeness to the mantis...but I'm not sure. He looks kinda freaky, don't want him eating out of my hand, that's for sure.

Interesting composition. Look almost like an alien (they do only have one antenna) :-) Seriously, there seems to be something that runs from the antenna base to the other side of the head, just in front of the eye. Might be the missing antenna, though it seems a bit short for a full length antenna.
