Image taken on 12/15 at the local public gardens after a light frost. What a difference 12 days can make! These are now buried under 10 inches of snow. Nikon D700, 105 micro nikkor, iso 200, f20, 1/6. Larger image included. The larger image actually has a slightly different (more neutral) color balance. I am curious as to which is preferred. Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome. :wavey:

And here's one more version for good measure - less purple; more green. Sorry, but I can't make up my mind!

I think I like the first the best. It is hard to truly compare with the larger one because that one has so much more beautiful details to look at! But the first two I like much better than the third as they preserve the chilly feeling that goes with frost...plus I like the way the purple & orange pop. The third one seems too warm to me!

Scott - Both look nice to me but I seem to like the mood in the first one. Another terrific winter photo

Scott: Frame filling fantastic. The larger version must be viewed. Glad you have the snow and glad you got this before it came. Top notch. >=))>

I like this collage effect, sort of, with the edges of the leaves outlined in white and the retention of colors in the fallen leaves. For me, this works because it is not about a specific element in the composition that is culled out by the mind as "the subject", but rather the jump made to the generalizations of "fallen leaves", "fall colors", and Fall with the frost within that suggesting the snow to come. So in that way, there is a kind of simplicity of understanding that arises and then serves as a basis within which the eye can fit and understand all of the little elements that comprise the image.

Both are gorgeous Scott. Great comp and beautiful harmony in the colors. I also love the textural detail in both. The first seems richer to me but I'd be pleased to have either of these on my wall or in my portfolio.

Hi Scott :wavey: Love them both :jump: But prefer the second version, because like you said " less purple, more green" appeals more to me, As always, beautiful work :toast:

Love it! A beautiful collection. To answer your question, I prefer the more neutral balance. Gorgeous.

As the difference is very slight to my eye, I prefer the large view. I think also I prefer the cooler tones, as they are more in line with a light frost.

Scott, I am late to the discussion. I like the large image the best. It’s more neutral for me. Nice color palette, well done. Happy New Year!
