Shot this the morning the world was supposed to end, en route to Wisconsin for the holidays. If this had indeed been the end, it would have been a nice final place to be.

Very nice!
I like: composition, colors
Dislike: maybe the empty middle ground...maybe..
otherwise I like it.

Alex, This is really nice. I like your comp a lot and love the light and colors here. A beautiful winter scene!
I agree, if it had been the end this would have been a nice place to be.
Where at in Wisconsin did you go for the holidays?

Love the feeling of the snow. Looks like the colors of the clouds are from twilight and not something one would expect with the first rays hitting the peaks...weird. Sweet find.

Alex,

Beautiful! Excellent near/far comp with the light on the range being quite the story. and I just love the light on the snow and the sky is quite complimentary.

The only suggestion/comment I have is that the top seems to be slightly dark relative to the snowy landscape. Yes, it is snow, but still the light balance is a little darker up top. A personal choice though, just my observation.

Beautiful. I like the way the sage leads my eye into the frame and the light on the peaks is just stunning

Alex, Very nice light on the peaks and whispy clouds along with a great find for just trying to get somewhere else. I agree with Lon about the darkness of the sky. Although it seems like a style you choose (checked out your website) I don't quite feel this scene warrants a near/far composition as the foreground isnt that interesting and the mid ground is empty. I feel that your other near far comps on your site are much stronger.

Lovely, balanced light. Really enjoy having the understated foreground. Makes the mountains even more grand.

You have been a busy guy. Road trippin and posting. Lets see some Minneapolis stuff for this next week. Wait a minute... there are no mountains or oceans in Minneapolis. Nice shot.Love the alpenglow.

Lon, I agree about the snow vs sky brightness - I had a tough time arriving at a balance (and you're probably right that it's not quite natural-looking). The reason I went darker with the sky was that the peaks stood out a lot better with a darker sky. I need to either darken the foreground or brighten the sky to get them matching.

Aaron, good eye! This sky is from 5 minutes before the light hit the peaks (didn't move the tripod at all in that time). The clouds had drifted way out of frame by the time the sun crested the horizon - they were still lighting up, but not quite as red (they were more orange-yellow). I didn't want to move the camera to catch them in that state, but I probably should have.

Todd, I agree. I wish I'd had a long lens to just focus on one or two of the peaks and catch them with snow blowing off just as light first hit - but unfortunately I only had the 10-20mm at this time. Compositionally, I was torn on whether to even give this file a shot, since I agree it's not strong in the FG/MG. I just don't have any Teton images or alpenglow images, so I did it anyway. I'm sure it'll get removed from my portfolio after I spend proper time at the Tetons.

Alex, it's really a compliment as the work on your site is so strong, I might have a different comments if someone else posted the same pic.

Amazing light. Both the subtle light on the foreground snow and the background intense light are striking.
