November Oak

This oak tree stands by the Hwy 23 bridge near Spring Green, WI and is just a few miles from my home. On this November morning I enjoyed the early morning light along with the fog coming off the Wisconsin River. The home of Frank Lloyd Wright (Taliesin) sits on top of the hill just past this bridge on the right.
Canon, 70-300L @70mm, iso 200, f/8 and 1/400 se.

The light on that tree is gorgeous! I love the contrast between it and the muted/foggy bridge.

I totally agree with Eirini; that was my first impression of this too; the light and sharpness of the tree against the softness of the foggy bridge. Secondarily, I also like the lines; there is the diagonal of the bridge and its reflection against the verticals of the concrete supports connecting them and the tight verticals on the reddish edge and very short ones on the railing. This vertical aspect is picked up in the tree trunk and in its bark.

But then, very interestingly, that one branch kind of mimicks the bridge, making a visual bridge over the actual bridge from starting at the connection with the tree all the way over to the far side of the bridge.

Real nice!

This is one of those images that you just can't take your eyes off of. You captured the fog perfectly, Great light, tremendous DOF. Sharp details. You nailed it Nick, great job.

Real sweet image. Has so many nice things going on. My "camera club" instincts keep telling me that the tree branches are too overpowering..but..the more I look the more a really think it adds to the interest and mood of the scenes. Well done in my opinion!

Great comp Nick, beautiful warm light, interesting contrasts between the textures in the tree and the and the fog. I also like the layers and the counterpoint between the shape of the tree and the geometric shapes in the bridge. Beautiful work.

Lovely light, Nick. The oak is beautiful and the softly fading bridge and it's even quieter reflection are a great foil for the tree. I could see this cropped a bit from the top, but it's great as presented.
