The Star of Jerusalem plant goes by many names, such as salsify, goat's beard and go-to-bed-early. The scientific genus is Tragopogon, and is a biennial plant. This is one of my favorite plants to shoot.

I've been in awe, and inpsired by all the great submissions for this weeks theme.

I love the texture provided by the lighting choice, Doug. I see why it has the name it has

If you would be up for a tiny critique idea, I'm wondering if this might benefit from a square aspect crop? Or now that I think further about it, maybe even a portrait 4:5

Very nicely done, Doug! Yes, this challenge has been quite popular with many wonderful images. . .and such variety. I think yours is also a worthy addition to this challenge. It has the honor of being the last one posted for this theme! Very nice lighting and good details of this flower. The black background shows this off nicely. A different layout may work with tilting the flower in a 90 degree counter-clockwise turn. That way the longer length of the petals aligns with the longer side of the image. Just a thought. . .

Thanks for the comments & critiques John & Carolyn. Before posting I tried different crops and rotations since there was a black BG. With the bottom larger leaf sharp I settled on this comp because I didn't like the symmetry and wanted a different look. Looking at it now, I probably have a bit too much canvas, but I still like it. Thanks again for the critiques.
