Cascades

Hi,
another LF image from the same creek, just a few yards upstream. The upper part of this image, including that characteristic rock at the top left, fills the frame of my previous image.

This composition, is kind of "stolen" from Andreas. While I was shooting "my" scene which I posted, Andreas was setting up his gear within sight a little higher up. When I finished, I checked out his spot and could not resist - these cascades were just too good.
I wonder how his version comes out - he used his wider lens and was more to the left. So stay tuned for his image!

Thanks for looking or leaving a comment!

For full disclosure, this is a blend of two different exposures, one for water, one for the framing.

Dietrich

Wista DX, 150mm, f/45.

Stellar shot - such places are rare. Processing and exposure(s) are spot on. One of your best and just my kind of image. My version might come in January - too busy at the moment.

I'm surprised you needed two exposures for this. What film were you using?

Worth it, though.

Dietrich, this is a most convincing presentation of the scene for me. Your compositional elements with the numerous curves and the rocks framing and anchoring it work impressively together to me. I also admire the details at the bottom left with the delicate green leaves embedded in the brown fallen ones. Great work in my opinion.

This is nice Dietrich, great quality of color in the water, perfect exposure IMO, and the right amount of detail in the frame to keep one very intrigued.

Thanks for the comments!

Julian, as usual I use Provia 100F. The blend was needed, mainly for the part in the bg, that pool further down. I also used some of the darker exposure for the little falls on the right.

This one is excellent. The touch of brighter colors in the fg leaves really adds to the image. All the curves and flow of water and rock keep my eyes in the frame. Beautiful

There is a wonderful rhythm to this Dietrich. Glorious light and motion with blues tones that are just lovely. The foreground shelf of leaves adds a lot of interest. I like this a lot.

I think I like this scene a little better than the last one, Dietrich. The colrful leaves and vegetation around the edges adds a lot in my view. Beautful scene.

I went back and looked at the previous one again and I'm enjoying both of these. The metallic silver look of the polished rock works well with the slightly blue water. Beautiful image and this looks like a great place to explore.

The LF is working well for you Didi. I love the colored leaves in the foreground and spread around elsewhere. Beautiful looking water and the exposure looks good. Well done!

Wonderful capture and processing work too, Didi. This image took some careful planning in the field and overall post processing with the film usage. The color seems spot on to me as well as I like the amount of depth you've provided into the shadow area. Just enough to be able to view it but still enough of the black to provide the nice offset contrast too, especially the last turn in the fall. Another real winner IMO. :toast:

I like the composition Dietrich. The rocks and leaves frame the water beautifully. The small stream of water flowing through the moss and leaves in the LRC is the most interesting I think and I wish there was a little more room below it....otherwise a solid comp. Exposure is good.....maybe a little bright in the ULC but definitely not blown. Nice image. :toast:

Thanks Dietrich. I'm surprised you didn't use a grad angled at 45° - surely it's a lot less work than scanning twice and blending the two versions? I admit I've done blends a couple of times and it took ages to get the edges halo-free...

Dietrich,

Didn't I already comment on this? Oh wait, email, I forgot. This is wonderful! It seems that your one lens was perfect for this. What a fascinating place! I love the colors, which are not surprisingly similar to your last image - kind of a silvery look overall, with great color throughout. Just love that water. All that interest at the bottom works beautifully in framing the scene and acting as a base while exploring all the flow and geology that follows.

Now you have really peaked my curiosity. From this vantage point, I want to know, how the H did you capture your previous image?? It would seem to me that the only way would be for you to be in this dangerous looking stream. OR, is this one of those gorges with a wooden or steel walkway bolted to the canyon walls? Of course it's not important, your image stands alone, but since you pointed out the location of the previous image, now I'm curious....

Great work Dietrich,

Lon
