Late fall on the Merced

by Robb Hirsch

I found this scene while walking a stretch of the Merced River in the light rain. I was drawn to the contrast and lines of the leafless black oak on the left and the one in full color on right.

All C&C appreciated.

This is a tranquil, quiet peaceful scene. I like it a lot.

Hey Robb,

I didn't make the connection from your last image, but NOW I remember! We met along the Merced a couple of years ago and you have the gallery there in Groveland. You've been on here a while now and I'm just now putting 2 and 2 together. Glad to see you posting!

This is a beautiful and tranquil view and capture along the Merced. I'm really enjoying the reflection and the framing - both from the arching black oak as well as the low hanging band of fog.

I'm always trying to see if I can guess where something is in the valley. Not too many sand bars on the Merced, but a few and especially with the water so low. Almost looks like this could be around the Swinging bridge area or that stretch west of Leidig meadow. Anyway, doesn't matter where, just a beautiful view.

One suggestion I do have would be to slightly burn the URC, kind of in a faint vignetting fashion. That might match what is happening naturally in the other corners. Just a thought.

Thanks for posting, I feel better now that it clicked when we met a while back. Interesting, I met William Neill at that same spot during my last visit.

I really like this Robb. Excellent composition and the autumn colors really attract the eye. I know this doesn't make any sense, but this both gets my juices flowing yet presents such a serene scene at the same time.

Really pretty, Robb. Lots of great elements here, and the reflection doubles up on them in a very nice way.

Lon- that is me, glad you made the connection! I remember meeting you as well. I haven't had much of a presence here, but I'm trying to improve that. Seems like a lot of good folks/photographers on npn. If you ever come through Groveland at a reasonable hour (a long shot most likely) let me know. Would love to hook up, chat a bit and show you our place. Your images would look great in our gallery...

Bill- thanks. Anytime someone says an image gets their juices flowing I'm happy!

Wonderful composition Rob as it leads my eye nicely throughout the whole frame. I would agree with Lon on burning the URC a bit.

Very appealing! The muted colors and soft reflection result in a very serene mood. The sandbar (?) on the right (and its reflection) does draw my eye a bit. It's a minor nitpick, but burning it down a little would help I think.

What a beautiful autumn scene Robb, hard to pull my eyes away, just so much to take in, definitely tranquil.

Very nice scene with wonderful colors. I also checked out your web site and you have a lot of nice work from a lot of familiar places.
