It's a rainy, cloudy day here in MD, but I like what those conditions can do for subtle colors so I was exploring scenes in my pond when I found this. This was taken with the polarizer rotated to maximize the reflections. This is a 9 image stack combined in PS5 and post processed using TK's triple play and some luminosity painting. I also increased the contrast. Is the contrast too much? (5D3, 70-200 f2.8 @ 200mm + 32mm ET for close focusing, 0.3s, f/13, iso 200, tripod, cable release and polarizer)

The contrast is not too much, imo. I love the water droplets sitting on the pad, and love the lines in the water bordering its perimeter. Also, as an added bonus are the reflections of the trees that are most likely standing over the pond. Very nice!

Very cool image Mark. The water droplets really make this one nice. I especially like the reflections in tear drop shaped water droplet in the center of the lily pad. Contrast looks great to me.

Mark, This is really a cool image! and nice work on your processing. The contrast looks good to me as well. The colors look totally natural ( ) and the water drops really set this off. As Nathan mentioned the reflections of branches in the drops look great. Only thing I think I might do would be to crop the bottom just a bit so you eliminate that one edge of the lily pad coming into the bottom right corner (not from the side just the bottom). I think you will still have enought room so that the main pad isn't to close to the bottom edge. Just a thought. This is very nice just as it is.

Mark I like this image a lot. The colors are rich, natural and pleasing. It invites the eye to linger with its rewards... and then the reflections in the water drops. Nice!

I like this a lot Mark. The rings of light around the lily pad are marvelous. Wonderful reflected light and water droplets. Is that a tree I see in the center water droplet lens?

Mark: Brilliant use of the polarizer. Wonderful intimate scene and the reflections are fabulous. My only 1¢ nit is the small orange leaf which grabs my eye a bit. If there were others scattered about the pads I think they would add interest but this lone wolf doesn't add much IMO. >=))>

I keep saying that pond of yours provides for great photos, Mark. This is another. Excellent job isolating this colorful lily pad. The water drops are nice, and I like the big reflecting drop in the middle.

The reflections really grabbed me. Technically great, ascetically delightfully.

Excellent, Mark! This is amazingly eye-grabbing. Hard to look away. So many details, and you got them all right. Even the rippled edges are perfectly enhanced.

Exactly what Tony said! What he didn't say is that the large drop in the middle provides a superb point for the eye and a great anchor for the composition. The reflection in that drop is sublime, too. Excellent work here, Mark!

Beautiful image Mark. The contrast works to give this a crisp, edgy look and character. I like, what for me, is a fresh take on this type of subject. The PP is exotic and skillful. Nice.

Mark,
Great comp and depth of field  Less contrast might improve tonal range but this is almost perfect. Wonder what a B&W conversion might look like? :toast:

Mark,

Fabulous job of getting everything sharp front to back. The water droplets, color and reflections in them really stand out in this closeup.

Question though, isn't a polarizer rotated for this effect the same as not using a polarizer at all? I'm not keen on the physics of the light other than the two opposing pieces a glass scatter the light as they are rotated... or something like that. Anyway, just an observation at best.

Not sure of the size here since there is no reference of scale, but considering you used extension tubes (ET?) this could probably fit quite nicely in Macro too. Certainly works as a mini landscape too!

Excellent work with this one.
