I haven't hiked up to Delicate Arch since 1996. And then, it was too crowded. Nothing like going two weeks before Christmas. This was last evening. There were maybe 15 people there. And, of course, it wasn't until the light got PERFECT that Capt. Murphy decided to go walk up to the base of the arch so he could have an experience and temporarily ruin the one for the people standing behind tripods with some sort of devices that do things that he's not aware of. :)

Michael, Very, very pretty. I love the glowing light on the rocks and arch. It is set off beautifully buy the wonderful looking sky and clouds. I like the darker shadowns in the background too. A beautiful scene! I have seen the same thing happen with somebody getting in the way right when the light is at its best...to many times! I'm glad you got what you did. Nice work! :toast:

It's a lovely look at an old standby, especially with the nicely lit arching bowl leading to the arch itself. I do find myself wishing that the triangular area on the right, including the arch itself, was brighter. It sounds like a near perfect time to visit.

Michael: A cliche perhaps but one I wish was mine. An iconic subject for a reason and wonderful light indeed. 2 thumbs up. >=))>

Although this is a commonly photographed location your image is anything but cliche. What stands out for me are the lenticular clouds in the distance over the La Sals and the clouds over the arch that seem to mimic the layers of the lenticular clouds. The light and color on the sandstone is splendid as well. At this size the detail in the shadows gets lost but I'm sure there is plenty detail in the full resolution image. This is nice work, Michael.

I love the clouds, too. The wide angle choice was a great one here, as I am enjoying the fg rocks, along with the arch/mountains/sky. Although I feel the shadows could come out a bit more, I have no major nits at all. Great capture! As for Capt. Murphy, not sure what to think. Too bad he seemed oblivious, but at the same time, what do we do? He probably had the experience of a lifetime! :wavey:

A good time to be at Delicate Arch. I don't think that I've ever seen it in such lovely light.
I also like the way that you've composed the image with the FG rock and the curving lines
which lead to the arch. The sky is another plus.

Excellent light on this place. Sort of wish the sky was a little lighter to appreciate those clouds.

Real nice take on an icon. My thoughts echo Tony's. I would not mind seeing a little brighter sky, especially the lights in the high clouds to punch it up a bit.

The only time I was there, a group of yahoos insisted on staying at the base despite the pleas of a lineup of togs.
