Visual Flow

Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona. I didn't even take a camera in with me because this place has been shot only like a billion times, sure glad I decided to take a few snaps anyway with my smart phone using the Comp-O-Matic app. Just kidding. Actually, this image is the cover of my new ebook on photographic composition called (yep, you guessed it) Visual Flow. Thanks for taking a peek.

I think you have a very appropriate title for this shot. Your image works on many levels ranging from the leading lines that create visual flow, to the warm and cool color that also directs the eye. I'm glad that you left a lot of wonderful dark tone in the image -- especially the corners. Many other photographers might have insisting on showing every ounce of shadow detail, but I'm glad you didn't. The result is a wonderfully mysterious image that sucks me right into the monitor.

Ian, a fabulous work from a commonly beautiful place. This is so very inviting. Still, I think all the action is in the center, and perhaps a slight crop from L&R would bring the center to prominence. Still, great as presented.

Simply fantastic shot, Ian. I love the gradations of color in this desert landscape, and the striations in the rock are perfect for drawing the viewer into this scene.

The contrast between light and dark really draws me in. Very nice.

This is certainly among the finest compositions I've seen from this iconic location. Well Done!

Great flow of cool to warm colors. The darkness and tightness of the slot gives me a definite claustrophobic feeling. Beautiful image, Ian! :toast:

Ian,

Outstanding slot image. I think you nailed it with the "flow" aspect of it. "Depth" also comes to mind for me.

Can I get that "Comp-O-Matic" for Android? Is it a free app?

I love this image! The color transition is what really attracts me. As a plug, I was just sitting here at work reading your new Visual Flow ebook (what else should I be doing at work??) and I am really enjoying it. Great info, and some really beautiful images by both you and George!
