Talk about a target rich environment! Well caught—I like the sense of layers.

wow. look at all those birds. Was this taken currently or in the past? What I like about the image is the bands of birds; all the way to the flock in the sky. thanks for posting.

Harry, taken Feb 2012. Not nearly as many birds here this last weekend - I think it's just too early in the season.

The larger version is much more effective, I think. Your choice of aperture did the trick on this because it appears to be acceptably sharp across all the layers. The only thing I wonder about is whether it might be easier to assimilate with a horizontal flip where the birds in the foreground were going from left to right instead of right to left. It's a subtle thing, maybe, but you might want to try it out and see what you think

Terrific capture, Sandy. These sights always fill me with wonder. Must have been a great experience to be in their midst. I like your title too - captures the image perfectly. :toast:

Very effective capture of a magnificent event. It's quite overwhelming to attempt to convey the entire scene in a shot-you accomplish that wonderfully here Sandy, congrats.

Pretty good dof for a 500 lens. I bet that was noisy. Great find.

Sandy,
Wish you could get a shot with a few more subjects in it. Layers is right, no pun intended. Good shot.

Nice photo!
I like: the quantity, water color
Dislike: front layer of birds are soft
