Is the time of year when one can start looking for and photographing Norther Harriers and Short-Eared Owls .They share the same hunting grounds and diet, this often leads to conflict between the two species over a vole or mouse found by one or the other. Was lucky enough to capture some of the action a couple of weeks ago.
Canon 500mm +1.4 .Canon Eos KK 1V .1/6400 at F8 . ISO 800. Subject distance 80 mtres.Agressive crop.
Critique and comments always welcome .thank you for looking.

Well caught! Closer would have been better, but the image holds detail well.

An impressive capture IMO. I used to be able to see this interaction in coastal New Jersey, but it always happened late in the day in low light and at too long of a distance.

You caught some great action here - I didn't know harriers and owls interacted.
Nice detail even with the large crop - could it be cropped even further?

Well done Suzanne :jump: A very good capture of the interaction. Closer would be better, but you take what you can get in these situations. It might be just my monitor but it seems like the sky has a cyan cast to it. Still great photo, wish I had taken it. Thanks for sharing.

Nice capture of the interaction, Suzanne. The poses tell the whole story. Nice to see the catchlight in the owl's eye. :toast:
