Just returned from vacation in the mountains. I concentrated on just shooting rockscapes and leafscapes. I'm going to share a series a rockscapes first. I know this won't be of interest to everyone, but I really enjoy them. I was concentrating on form, color, and texture.

Please check out LARGE version too.

I would love to hear your thoughts and critiques. Thanks for looking.

Well, it's of interest to me Bill, excellent detail, natural colors and composition. Really love doing this myself, and I know from experience how difficult they can be to come away with an interesting composition, in my opinion you did that beautifully. Looking forward to seeing more.

The colors are excellent in this rockface. The scattering of the leaf and needles ground this from an abstract to a fine intimate shot. Beautiful work.

I can't believe the colors here. So vibrant, and with so many details to make the image. You captured this really nicely, and I'm sure you didn't stumble once on the trail with your head down so much! Not sure about the leaf on the right, but really, it doesn't detract much from the image, IMO. Love the pine needles!

The colors are what first caught my attention. The leaf and needles ad interest and focus to the image.

Great eye and capture Bill! I love the texture here and the wide variety of colors too. I think the leaf on the right creates some tension and dynamic to what might have been a more static scene with out it. I like that you left in the little needles too - I might have been inclined to do some landscaping... but this is quite natural and a wonderful capture.

I would consider burning down that flipped over edge on that leaf though - or perhaps clone in a little texture? No biggie though.

Looking forward to more rocks and then leaves too!

Nice array of colors you found here, Bill, my only (small) nit is with that leaf.. I wish it were in a slightly more interesting part of the image. Still a fine image.

Bill: This totally rocks - pun intended. My eye stays in the image and I like the vein of quartz in the upper right. Nice texture and color and very pleasing palette of colors. Glad that you posted this large.

The small bits of tree debris provides a really nice addition in perspective and scale here, Bill. Thanks for the larger view too. It makes it much easier to see the true detail.

I like the beautiful subtleties here Bill the color, the texture, and pine needles. I might be tempted to clone the leaf out altogether since it seems out of place but that's me.

Bill,

The color pallet is wonderful and subtle. I like the pine needle accents in this one, but that extra leaf is somewhat attracting my eye more than I would like.

This is great too, but with more subtle colours and veins.
I think I like to other better bet of the deeper saturation - I,m usually a sucker for strong colours.

Love the colors and textures! The leaf is the obvious contentious point--i kind of like it, it adds a little tension, but it is pretty far to the rhs--a little more to the NW here and it would have been perfect... But very nice overall! :wavey:
