Dashboard

I have been doing a little series on abandoned car and truck steering wheels and dashboards. Weird, I know, but I get a kick out it. This one was done in the Mojave Preserve, at an abandoned drilling site. It is an old pickup truck.

I like the dashboard detail, like the odometer reading and the gauge visible in the large version.

I used an 8-3/4" Verito lens, vintage around 1920. It gets real fuzzy wide open (5.6) and is actually pretty sharp around f/22. This was done around f/11 or so. It gave me the limited DOF I was after, plus a nice OOF effect.

If you ever come my way, I have a spot for you. There is a farm along a back highway that has a small grove of trees. In the trees are two or three lines of old cars that have been sitting there for nearly 50 years. The newest car is vintage 1928.

I am really digging this, Harley! Love the dof and pof for the emphasis on the dash. I also noticed the manual choke knob below and left of the steering wheel. I had forgotten that the old ones had to be manually choked when started and then you shut it off when the engine warms up.

Where are the GPS and rear view camera? No blue tooth? There is something about old vehicles and machinery that is irresistible and draws us in. Maybe its the nostalgia of simpler times.

David stole my thought - where's the USB port and charger?

Always enjoy these Harley. Great stuff!

Very nice, Harley. Could probably do a forum of "abandoned rusted hulks" and get some great shots.
