Olympus E-5, 300mm x 2.9TC, tripod
f7.1, 1/250, ISO400

A boreal specialty, and not that common in our part of Interior Alaska. This male hung around our feeders for a few minutes, then disappeared and never came back.

Full frame, selective sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Nicely done, Jim. Love the light, the splash of red in such a low color image and that tiny beak.

Nice photo  Good detail in the birds face. Also like the touch of red. It looks like you may have had some fairly flat light to work with. Thanks for sharing.

Nice pose. Wish the shadow on the head was not there.

Nice catch of this beautiful bird. Love the composition and the eye contact.
The background is a bid distracting as is the shadow on the head.
That said, you did a nice job for the amount of time you had with it.

Nice full frame shot, I like the head turn and red spot, I have never seen one of these birds, way to go.

Very nice image with nice head turn to show off the red patch, and the catch light in the eye. I like the subdued colors, though the dark branch at the top and the one rising to the top from the right edge take away some of that delicate look, to my eyes.

I've never seen a Hoary Redpoll. A Redpoll that I saw a couple of weeks ago looked very pale and I thought -wishful thinking- that it might be a Hoary Redpoll rather than a Common Redpoll. The small beak, as shown in your photo is indeed an excellent field mark. It definitely was a Common Redpoll that I saw. Thanks for posting.

A very nice look here. From the birds expression to the light, but I agree with Roger, at least about the dark limb at the top. Still a very nice image.

Super shot with all the "colors" in the same tones. Splash of red stands out even though it is in shadow.
