Plethora of Yellow (w/ Repost)

This is from a pleasant little grassy meadow in Zion Canyon. I was attracted to the arrangement of this group of four trees and the large boulder. I think that the narrow strand of green grass (with less leaf coverage) stretching horizontally across the scene behind the boulder helps to provide some separation between the leaves on the trees and the leaves on the ground.

To comply with file size constraints, and considering the amount of detail in this image, compression isn’t doing me any favors here. So don’t look too closely.

Hey jim, really like your symmetrical comp, and the balance in colors between green and yellow. It might be my monitor but I feel it might be hot on the highlights. That's my only thought. nice work!

Jim,

A fantastic composition. It draws me in and then gives me room to move around. I love the yellow everywhere, but I feel the contrast is off somehow. I think it might be excessive blue light working against the yellow. I can see it on the grass behind the boulder. I might try a curves layer and just pull down the middle of the blue curve alone and see if it softens the harshness a bit, not to much though as I would not want to lose the wonderful glow.

Wow,,,,,this borders on sensory overload! The angled trunks form a nice foundation for the riot of color and detail. It seems a bit bright on my end, but that might just be me.

Jim,

Great job filling the frame. The wide angle works beautifully here AND one of the great things about nature and images like this, lens distortion just doesn't matter! In fact I'd say it adds to the dynamics of the scene.

The only suggestion I have would be to burn down the highlights in general; the carpet of leaves is slightly bright, at least on my monitor. A minor point though. Nicely seen and well crafted.

Jim, What a wonderful fall scene. I'm enjoying your comp here and the great fall color. The golds and green looks really nice and I like the touch of blue in there. It does seem just a bit bright on my monitor as well. Very nice!

I love this composition! The amount of leaves and color is awesome. Love all the leaves on the ground too.

Definitely a pretty composition of color Jim, and I have to be honest, I cant figure out which post I like the best, I think I would be happy with either one, anyway, beautiful scene.

Hey Jim -- the repost looks better, but in bringing down the highlights I think some of the dynamic range is lost. I might now look at a midtone adjustment, darkening it just slightly.

Excellent composition and impressionist view... I like the carpet of leaves and the yellow everywhere... Printed large should be amazing! I like the repost slightly better, seems more balanced.

I like the repost better, as it has a beautiful palette of color that comes through a little better. A fine comp, too.

Jim,

I think the repost is a definite improvement. The edge is just taken off the highlights. I do think made a good observation and comment about a midtone adjustment as well. but at this point, we're just tweakin'... Thanks for taking the time to rework and post.
