This was taken in Negril, Jamaica, 6 hours before Hurricane Sandy hit the island. An odd calm was in the air until just minutes after this capture was made..with some of the strangest looking skies i have ever seen. Used a 2 stop GND and a circular polarizer to try and even everything out. Thanks!

The layered comp is nice. I know tropical weather can create great atmospherics but there is something in the color that seems off and sort of flat. I'm not talking about the accuracy of the color (obviously I was not there), but rather the quality of the light and color if that makes any sense.

Justin,

This one is throwing me off. I've only been in that part of the world once, and all I seem to remember is that the color of the water should be the color the sky you have presented here. Of course I wasn't there and no doubt the "calm before the storm" altered the conditions one might normally expect, but for me anyway, the sky just seems way off. And to add to that, the brightness and color of the water doesn't seem to match what the sky would be providing and even reflecting in the water. Does that make sense? Again, I may be off because I wasn't there. Lastly, I think the foreground rocks a very interesting on their own, but what's different for me here is that they aren't really part of the "atmosphere" that I think you tried to capture and portray. Hope I'm making some sense. Feel free to add more thoughts Justin.

David/Lon- I should have taken another look at this before i posted it. I processed this on my wife's computer while we was there in elements...i'm used to ps5...and apparently i need to calibrate her screen  This is the original shot with some saturation enhancement. The light was extremely different than anything i had encountered while we was there, and changing minute by minute. It wasn't three minutes after this shot that the wind really began to pick up, and we was forced off the beach.
Lon- You are making perfect sense. I was wondering how this would be percieved...i was surrounded by white sand, but was really drawn to this stand of rocks. For me, it fit better with the mood of the moment than the typical white sand shots you see a lot of in jamaica, with the hurricane coming in fast...so fast, in fact, that i wasn't able to find another comp!

I have to admit, I'm somewhat thrown by this too. The repost is an improvement, with the turquoise water. But ... the mask you used to adjust the color cast of the water seems to be bleeding onto the rocks here and there which look very cyan along the edge in some places. The sky seems unexpectedly cyan to me too. And the horizon is not quite level.

I guess im not surprised the surf was so calm since Sandy hit 80+ miles to the east as a bare Cat 1, and Negril would have been partially sheltered from the NE winds, at least until they became more westerly later in the afternoon.
Clean up the green rocks and you'll have yourself a nice memento!
