Rain on the Rox &RP
by Russell Colletta
Roxborough State Park near Denver. This is a beautiful location, but somewhat of a challenge to photograph without some hand of man sneaking into the shot. There are lots of trails and houses right on the park boundary. But if you hike the east ridge and shoot across to the hills above you see this on a rainy fall day. This is not the real attraction at the park, it's the fantastic rock formations. I have a few of those images that might get posted later, but for now it's exploding fall color shot through a light rain.
Nikon D600, 70-200 f 2.8 @ f4.5, 1/160 on a tripod, 14 bit raw file processed in Lightroom 4.
Fun day!

17 commentsI like the colorful quilt look to this one. Great colors and I know this is accurate for the colors there after the rain. Good diagonal lines in your comp to give a sense of movement, too. The only nit would be to crop off the brighter spots at the urc.
Beautiful image.

A patchwork quilt is what came to my mind as well - a mosaic is another good one. this sure looks like a place rich in photo opportunities; I'm sure you'll be returning again and for good reason.
In my view I think you could work on some processing items. Not sure if it's the lens or what, but it seems there is some light fall off on the edges both left and right - but not top and bottom. Interesting. I also think the contrast is a little heavy and some of the shadow areas in the trees are blocked up; especially in the UR - where the light fall of doesn't help. But the light rain and diffused light sure did bring out the colors.
I think a wonderful image. Just a few adjustments and you'll have a great one.

No nits from me. Thanks for sharing.
Happened to come back here to see if you had done anything after seeing your new post. This rework is 100% improved! I think you took care of multiple things and this looks great! No blocked up shadows, greens more natural and it looks like you addressed the light fall off too. Nice work!

What if you lighten the shadows a little bit
Great work
