Standing with Giants

Our summer vacation consisted of visiting colleges with my daughter, who's transferring next fall. Luckily, these included U.C. Santa Cruz, U.C. Berkeley, and my alma mater, Humboldt State University, so most of the trip was on the California coast. I made sure we spent three days in Humboldt, just to get a good look. One of those days was spent hiking in Redwood National Park with some nice morning fog. The last time I took a picture in this area was with my 35mm Mamiya/Sekor 500LT, which I still have (as well as boxes of old slides).
Thanks and comments welcome.

The atmospheric perspective is fantastic Rudy. The composition is classic and works very well, and the detail just draws me into the peaceful scene. Nice, very nice.

Beautiful light Rudy and I actually like the centered composition for this subject.

A lot to enjoy in this. Lovely light, color, and a fairytale quality. Exellent work. I hope to see these giants before I leave this world.

Robert,

Excellent capture from the redwoods. I think you did a great job composing this and this impressive trunk is showcased beautifully. I really like all the surrounding and supporting elements of the ferns below and the foggy/misty forest in the bg. The centered comp works very well. the large version is a must see. Well done, beautifully crafted.

At first, the big tree seems too dominant in the frame for me. But then all the great stuff like the ferns and the background fog come into play, and the dominance is reduced. So, I think it works pretty good! Nice.

Rudy, This is a wonderful image!...I love it. The light, color, fog and detail are all fantastic! Your comp works really well for me and especially so in the large version. This was captured in wonderful conditions and beautifully done. :toast:

The tree feels a bit "central" but really enjoy its solidity and then the layer of light as the scene recedes into the fog.

One of the images where background matters a lot and makes the shot. The thumb did not look so promising, but this version is an entirely different story for me. The bg adds so much feeling and sense for the place. I still find that single bold trunk a bit too dominating and "awkward"(a tad), but yes that background takes away a lot of its dominance.
