Pie-billed Grebe

I believe this to be a juvenile. I had spent about three hours on an overcast day sitting in my blind with absolutely no action the whole time. Just before the sun dipped below the horizon it broke through the clouds. Right on cue this little guy came out from a reed bed, swam into perfect range and position, did a little pirouette, gave me a wink and then swam off. I love it when that happens.
All C&C appreciated.

Beautiful. Love the golden bath. Nice eye contact and composition. I like that he is smaller in the frame. He "fits".

Nicely done, Mark. I really like the water colors and light here. Great little head turn with this frontal approach. You worked hard for this one and it paid off. I think too many folks ignore this little species, for me they're full of personality and grit.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to show up!
Nicely captured, love how the golden reflection in the water compliments the color of the Grebe.
The head turn, the catch light in the eye and details in the feathers all come together to make this a beautiful image.

Well done. :toast:

3 hours is a long time all alone with nothing to shoot, but I'm glad you waited! This is nicely presented with a gorgeous bg/water color. Sharon

Well done. One of my favorite birds. As ron says full of piss and vinegar or somthing along those lines and fun to watch. I love the light and the reflections.

Your patience really paid off with this wonderful composition. The low perspective really makes this for me in combination with that colored background and head turn, excellent shot.
