WC #557 - Fractured

This was taken earlier this afternoon up in east Zion, where I've been spending most of my time this past week. I'm pretty sure that this is actually the first photograph that I've taken during a weekly challenge with that week's theme in mind and with the intent to post it that week.

This is a small section of a rather large slab of sandstone that had long ago fallen to the canyon floor. I say "long ago" but I have no idea how long ago. But there are several trees growing around and over the slab. It obviously fractured roughly in half along this fracture zone.

Glad you kept the weekly challenge theme in mind while on your Zion outing, Jim! Certainly some very jagged edges in those rocks. I really like your comp of this with the striations in the rock angled one direction and the fractures angled the other direction. Nice find.

Wonderful close up of fractured sandstone. How the layers in the stone are set off by the fractures is great. I'd frame this one and hang it on my wall.
