Pacific Sunset

This is from 2008 when I lived in California. My wife and I pulled over on the side of the PCH and enjoyed the sunset. We stayed until it was dark.

Single .raw image, just processed in LR4.2
Canon 30D, 17-40L @ 40mm, f14, 1/500S, iso100, hand held, no filters

All comments welcome. Ideas for shooting here again as I will return when visiting my wife's family. I had been shooting about a year when I shot this. I'd like to try long exposures/soft water for this kind of scene.

Very pleasant image. It has a very calm feeling to it. The small wave braking on the rocks gives just enough foreground interest. Nice image.

Brad, I don't think you can improve on the comp, and I think the very natural look of this is pleasing. Variations via experiments with different techniques are fun, but it all depends on what sort of personal style you are comfortable with. I think some techniques, although interesting, call attention to the photographer and his/her equipment at the cost of portraying the beauty of the scene on its own. Nothing wrong with that; it all depends on what your objective is.

Definitely captures the feeling of an ocean sunset. Nice clouds.
