For my rare, once a year post to Avian, I've chosen to post a White Ibis captured Sunday on Wakulla River, south of Tallahassee, FL.

I seldom shoot avian, so honest critiques and suggestions are welcome.

LARGE version included.

D2x w/ 70-200 VR (VR on)@ 200mm
1/320 @ f/2.8
250 ISO
Handheld
Capture One 6, CS4

Your thoughts are welcomed and appreciated.

This avian photo is sublime. Love the low key feel and the way the inky black water and dark tree stump contrast with the beautifully exposed white of the Ibis. The vertical format is absolutely necessary. You done good Bill, see you in Oct 2013 for your next bird photo.

I really like the moodiness of the dark setting Bill - just enough detail back there to work well for me. The ibis is well exposed and I like your composition. I'm generally not one to suggest cloning but if this were mine I'd get rid of the bright white spot on the tree trunk above the tail of the bird. Nicely done.

Very well done. Burn the bright spot in bit.

I really like the sharpness of the bird, the reflection...next time I might try to move a little one way or another or try to get rid of the vine or branch-like thing that looks like it's growing from his head. You may not have been able to...I know how that is. Overall, it's a great pic!

Excellent! Come over to the avian side more often!
Exceptional exposures with a nice pose and very fine detail. The bit of reflection adds even more to this cool image.
