Union River 2

This is another comp I made of the Union River in the same location as the one I posted a couple of images back now. I found the flow of the water in the foreground interesting with this comp. Taken in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness Area of Upper MI about three weeks ago. Compression is not doing this one any favors. Saved at 50%

Very very cool comp. Love it. Looks like it's tilted heavily to the CCW though. Nice work!

Thanks guys! Appreciate your thoughts!
Aaron, I did some cw rotation here with this version. I think it was off a little... Not as much as it appears it might be but still in need of some. I did a print of this and do remember rotating it some for that. Thanks for pointing it out! Nick

That is an impressive glow in the reflection. The right side shadows look lke they have been opened too much to me. Not sure if it's the compression, but that side looks too HDRish for me.

A lovely fall scenic. Strong from FG to BG. Pretty colors with a nice reflection of the
colors in the middle.

Love the liquid gold appearance Nick. The leaves and stream motion in the foreground add a lot of interest. Beautiful autumn scene.

Nice little scene. I like the detail in the FG and the overall sense of color provided by the BG and reflection. Nicely done.

NIce composition, Nick. I like the 4X5 presentation here along with those nice golds which bathe the scene in warm light. This looks very inviting.

Love this Nick! The golden reflection of the foliage is wonderful, and the square comp works really well. The long shutter speed works great here as well. This has a nice magical feel to it!

It is really interesting for me, Nick, how the different vantage point adds a kind of dynamics to this serene scene. The sense of flow is leading me nicely into the depth of your composition. I also enjoy the wonderful colors and lighting.

Interesting comment by Harry...I wouldnt have even noticed it, but he is right, the rhs has some pretty extreme contrast that doesn't show up in your presentation here. I'm not sure it's a problem though (cause i didnt even notice it at first!). I love the overall comp, great leading line, super color and light. I'd crop a bit off the bottom--there's a few blurred objects down there that i find distracting.

Thanks to all of you for your commemts on this. Glad you enjoy the scene. I know I did while being there.
Harry and Stan, Not quite sure what would be going on over on the right side. This is a single exposure and I used a curves adjustment to darken the shadows over the entire image. Maybe just the lighting but I guess other than the curves adjustments I don't know what else to say.
Stan, Yes, I think a small crop of the bottom could be an improvement as the blurred leaves are a bit of a distraction I guess. Thanks much guys! I appreciate your thoughts. Nick

Wow, this is superb, Nick. The yellows and greens are magical throughtout the scene and the diagonal placement of the stream gives this a great sense of depth. What do you think about cloning out those couple of out of focus leaves in the FG?

The water flow and adjacent leaf line make a nice diagonal direction to the brighter glow down the river. I could see a crop from the bottom to make this a 4x5 horizontal, to about where the yellow rock meets the left edge. What a nice location and fall image.

Lot's of great fall images posted right now but this thumbnail jumped off the screen at me. The palette of color is impressive and the comp works nicely with the cw rotation you did. I really like how the water leads the eye all the way through the scene. Well done!! :toast:

Like Chris, I distinctly remember commenting on this before, but I realize what happened; scrolling up and down to check the rotation (after commenting that I agree it needs a bit more), I must have hit "next photo" instead of "Add Comment." Anyway, I'll comment briefly again on how much I like the diagonal comp, shutter speed, reflections, contrast of the leaves and dark water in front, and that gorgeous, warm light flowing in from the top. First-rate image!
