Morning Reflections

Early morning light at Sparks Lake, Central Oregon Cascades, September 2012.

This is how Sparks Lake looked two mornings before my image titled
Shimmer. It was amazing how different the light was on these two mornings due to the smoke from the Pole Creek Fire. On this morning most of the smoke was blowing north, away from the lake. In the larger version you can see some of the smoke billowing up just to the left of Broken Top (approximately the center of the horizon).

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24mm G at 18mm, no filters
1/25 sec at f/16, ISO 100, single exposure

All comments and suggestions are appreciated. Please check out the larger version.

The two images evoke two different moods. I like the warm glow and mysterious feel to the "Shimmer" image a lot but this version tells a different story and stands on its own merit. I like the quiet feel to this image and it conveys the feeling of a peaceful morning. I can almost hear the birds chirping and the fish periodically coming up to the surface...perhaps with a bugling elk in the distance. Beautiful image, Scott.

The rocks, depth of clarity, and reflection are superb Scott.

I like the way you have arranged the fg rocks in your comp Scott. Fabulous control of the light and a great capture.

Sure looks like a wonderfully peaceful morning. Take a few quick photos and then sit back and enjoy with a good cup of coffee!

This is beautiful. the fg rocks make an excellent lead in and the light on them is outstanding. The reflection creates a nice peaceful feeling. The smoke in the bg is a sad counterpoint to all this beauty. Very nicely done

Excellent comp with the "v's" from the mountains interlocking with those of the rocks. A nice moment captured, too.
