Summer Dusk
by Alex Noriega
Mount Hood from Trillium Lake. View it larger at the Purchase Print link.
This is an image from back in June. Single 2-minute exposure taken about an hour after sunset, not even a GND was used on this. Grass in FG was light-painted with my headlamp.
I instinctively cloned out the lights from Timberline Lodge initially, but I ended up preferring it with them left in - I think they add an element of interest that's not overly distracting. Color-wise, they add a warm tone that counters the coolness of the right half of the image, and they echo the time-stretched tree and cloud reflections. They also provide a leading line to Hood, as do the clouds. That's just my thinking though - I know they'll probably get mentioned in every comment here on NPN.

This is beautiful and actually somewhat unique with the strong and prominent reflection of the lights from the lodge. I also wouldn't clone them out as this is how the scene is represented. In other words, if someone saw your image and wanted to do a reflection image at the same time of day, they would be dissappointed to find out there were lights had you cloned them out.
Speaking of the lights, I'm gonna move this to the M&N gallery after posting my comment - hopefully for obvious reasons. LIke I mentioned, I like this very much as presented, but it just needs to be posted in a different gallery. Hope you understand and if you have any questions don't hesistate to contact one of us mods.
Thanks!
