The lovely alpine glow of Mt. Hood presented itself on the last day of August 2012. Later in the evening the alpine glow gave way to a new moon which, because it was the second moon of the month, became the 'Blue Moon' . This image was made up along the Lolo Pass Road in the Mt. Hood National Forest. This vantage point along the road presents itself due to the BPA powerline utility corridor directly behind. Just a short distance up the road is access to the Pacific Crest Trail. This is another example of utilizing my luminosity masking techniques in Photoshop CS6.

A lovely and powerful view of the forest and Mt. Hood. Not having been there, I am reluctant to criticize, but it feels as if there is too much red in the sky. Something doesn't look quite right. I am wondering if a cooler sky color might give this a more authentic feel.

The west view of Hood is my favorite. Well done.

Phil, yes the sky is rather ruddy but we had been having a lot of forest fires nearby and with the smoke in the air our sunsets have been much more red than usual. Most of the year with all of the rain the dust and/or smoke particles get washed out of the air. During the latter part of the summer as we get more fires our air gets rather hazy as you might expect.

I really like the the glow of the mountain. I might try a pano by taking some off the bottom and putting more emphasis on the mountain.

Wow. A beautiful scene, to say the least. The bare trunks among the forest add a lot of interest to the image.

I agree with Phil that something looks odd - but your response of smoke in the area makes sense. I think you should open this up in CS6 and play with the levels and/or curves to bring in some more contrast and embolden your dark colors which look washed out (due to the smoke).

What a grand view showcased with some fantastic light. My only suggestion would be a bit more contrast to the scene. Still nicely done, Phil.

OK, so I went back and reworked this image from the beginning with a slightly different image. Just mostly a change in the position of the clouds.
