Clinging to life

I came across this tree about 2 years ago when it seemed to be in its prime, a great subject for sunset photos. I had not returned until just recently to find that age and the elements had caught up with the old tree, but there was still a bit of life left as the small amount of upright trunk had produced new leaves on the few branches remaining.

Looks like a victim of high winds? Some trees can live on even after major trauma. A Giant Sequoia can be hit by lightening and be hollow on the inside and still thrive.

It is amazing the resilience of trees. We had a big maple in our yard when I was a kid and it got split almost in two by lightning and is still alive.
