Smoky Sparks

An early fall sunrise at Sparks Lake in the Central Oregon Cascades, September 2012. The smoke from the Pole Creek Fire (near Sisters, OR) can be seen billowing up near Broken Top on the right and this smoke contributed to the haziness seen in this image. As of today the fire has scorched 22,150 acres of forest. It's sad to see the beautiful forest burning, but I know this is just the natural fire cycle playing out.

Nikon D800, Nikkor 14-24 G at 22mm, no filters
Single exposure: 1/3 sec at f/16, ISO 100

funny how the destruction makes it look that much more peaceful. the smokestack adds much and I think the WB adds even more to the mood of this great image. :toast:

A beautiful shot Scott. Love the hazy/smoky atmosphere and magenta tones, but yeah, it's always sad to see forest burn. All part of regeneration cycle I guess. Large version is sweet. No suggestions... great shot!

Nice capture Scott. The composition is very nice and the haze certainly tells a story.

This would look great on a wall. I like how the pinkish clouds splatter across the water, and as sad as fire is the smoke does add a layer of interest in this image. Very nice, Scott.

I was going to say something similar to Navin. Very serene, despite the destruction Scott!
