Quite cool Howard. Been a very strange summer here north of you (NE). Very few insects, cicadas, grasshoppers etc. Do you know is that white something that is part of the critter or is it some kind of fungus?

I've looked into the anatomy of the insect John, you piqued my curiosity..
Not fungus, just part of its physical exterior makeup.
Thank you for looking, they are very interesting insects :wavey:

Great close-up of a Cicada, Howard! These guys definitely make themselves known by all the noise they make but I find them very elusive to actually see to photograph. I like the in-your-face POV you have in this shot. Interesting face to analyze. . . his eyes almost look velvety, the lower part of his mouth looks like it has a serious overbite  , interesting placement of the "whiskers" (antennae?), and I wonder what the white dots are? I may have to do some more research on these guys too!

The color coordination between the insect, stalk, and the background are great as are the details in the cicada. Neat capture. Probably has a future as a "bad guy" in a space movie.

One ugly bug, but a great photo with detail.

A face only another cicada could love. But an excellent capture.
