Along The Beach w/repost

Red Cliff, Yuraygir National Park, New South Wales, December 2009.

This national park encompasses the longest section of unspoilt and protected coastline on the New South Wales coast (65klms/40miles). A great place to just stroll along the beach and explore.

D80, 10-20 lens @10mm, f/11, two shots blended for sky and cliff.

Cheers.

I like the way the clouds, the surf, the beach and the cliff all come to a common point. Not having been there I could be wrong, but reds in the rocks at the cliff base seem too strong.

At first glance, I love it, but at second glance I'm going to be a little nitty. Overall, the blend isn't quite working for me - the sky seems a little too dark for the water. I might brighten the white of the clouds a wee bit to help that and also tone down the brightness of the water a tad. I also agree with Mark that the reds appear a little too red but, as he said, I wasn't there so I'm not sure. I think with a little more post processing work, this can be a real winner.

An excellent comp, David, with the lines of the clouds and cliffs driving the eye to the distance. One more vote for a touch more balance in light between sky and cliffs, and the reds in the rocks do seem to have too much vibrance, but like the others, I wasn't there either.

This is a powerful scene David. I really like that diagonal running from corner to corner. The punchy contrast suits the image as well. I do echo the comments made about the saturation of the reds and the blending.

I agree with the criticisms that have been made. A little more work can put this over the top.

David, this is a great comp. But I also agree with the criticisms about the blending (sky too dark, water too bright) Some more post processing and this is a winner shot

Wonderful drama in the sky David but I do wish the clouds were whiter. Wonderful comp though.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Here is a repost with a brighter sky, darker sea and bit less red in the rocks. An improvement?

The textures and colors are very strong throughout this frame. I like this level of intensity in the image.

David,

Excellent job taking the feedback and reworking. I think it's a great improvement and looks good all the way around in terms of processing, exposure, color, etc. And what a great comp! The lines that have been mentioned already are great; really a nice effect in this image. Great sky and it works very well taking space in the UL quadrant, which always seems to be problematic in seascapes like this. Great job, well seen and crafted.
