Tangle Falls

Jasper National Park again - Tangle Falls this time. This one lost quality terribly during JPEG compression. So, please, please, have a look at the large version, or even better, on my website:

http://basilgreber.smugmug.com/Landscapes/Banff-and-Jasper-National/24967461_9cMgWv#!i=2075871101&k=96LSSPS&lb=1&s=X2

To achieve the smooth water here, I overlaid several exposures with relatively fast shutter speed (insufficient to smoothen the water) due to excessive light levels at the time of my visit to the falls (and lack of a ND filter).

Techs: D90, 16-85 DX VR, tripod.

Please let me know what you think!

Basil, the one on your website has way more detail I agree. I enjoy the trees' colours here, but my eye is somewhat struggling with the comp (where to focus on?) which I think has to do with there being several distinct falls, which are also partially hidden behind trees. the water motion does look a bit peculiar, but I might not have noticed that if you hadn't written about it. :wavey:

Basil,

I agree that the larger version on your website shows so much better. And I never would have guessed about the overlay to create the water effect; I think it comes across quite well actually. Nice job.

No nits really, I like this. The only suggestion(s) I have would be to clone in some trees at the top of the image to remove the small patch of sky. Secondly, and this is just a personal thought, you might consider painting/burning down from a broad perspective the lighter values along the bottom rock and trees (mostly LLC) but in a way that you almost create a very slight vignette. I'd have to play with it to see if that makes sense, so just a thought. It's certainly not overexposed or too contrasty, just "light." if that makes sense.
