Camas

I'd forgotten about this one until I ran across it in my "to post" file yesterday. I like the contrast between the delicacy of the petals and the chunky frost crystals.

7D, 100mm f2.8, tripod, f13, 1/100, iso 400, cropped from the sides. A couple of specular highlights were removed. Taken May 11th at 7:27 am.

Comments and criticisms are greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking,

Great subject. . .beautiful flowers with a touch of frost. Oh dear, not sure I'm ready for the cold weather of fall yet though. I like your comp and the good focus on the flowers. At that aperture however, this background is a little busier than ideal. I especially wish that diagonal stem heading into the bottom left corner wasn't so visibly cutting through the one flower. Possibly a darkening of the background would help?

I agree with Carolyn...this is a beautiful sight, not something I ever see here in my part of the desert! The BG is a bit busy & I think burning it might help a lot!

I'm in complete agreement with the already made suggestions. Being from Chicago (but having lived my last 38 years in the southeast, I miss the morning chill ) I think your capture of the frost is well done.

Dennis:
No quibble about the Camas; beautiful, perfectly captured in nice light. Not too keen about the bg though.

Frosted Camas! I'll be darned... Looks beautiful and in a very natural setting, Dennis. Personal preference calls for a little softer background, maybe around f 7.1, 6.3 or so..., if you still want the look of the plant's environment in there.

I agree that the contrast of texture is lovely. Wonderful colors, too. I wish the background was a little smoother, but that's not a big deal. Nice!

The portrayal of the main flowers is superbly sharp - and I like the slightly contrast lighting there too, Dennis. Like others I might wish for a slightly less focused bg but this is a lovely image anyway.

The frost is a fine addition to these elegant flowers. I would burn in the three leaves in the mid-ground as I find them distracting.
