Another try at Sea Oat grass seedheads against an OOF background of Coleus. My previous posting was not quite in focus. Hopefully this one looks better!

Canon Rebel T1i. 180mm macro lens. F/3.5 for 1/60 sec. ISO 100. Tripod mounted, natural lighting.

WOW, I thought the first was wonderful....this is superb. I might be tempted to fill in the dark lower center a tad, but this is just great art in my opinion.

Carolyn - Having shot Sea Oats, I can relate to the issues - they seem to move all the time and the orientation of the individual grass seed heads is different from one another making alignment to the focal plane a nightmare.

I like this better than the previous effort. Focus for the 3 seed heads is much better here and somehow I like 3 better than 2 sometimes. I believe there is some compositional rule/justification for that.

I liked the previous version, but I like this one maybe a pinch more because of the sharp lowest seed head. I did like the more muted bg in the first, but both are really well done. As I mentioned in response to the first, the seed heads have a sculptured metallic look that I like a lot. Just gorgeous.

Carolyn:
Yes, much better than the previous. The green is also iridescent against the red bg.

I agree with Ram's comment about 3 number in composition. Many of composistion rules in Ikebana also use odd numbers.

Love the colors against the background. I like this better than the first, really well done. Great light, too. :toast:

Carolyn, this is a lovely portrait of Sea Oats. I really like the backlit glow of the young seed heads, the good separation between them, and the warm red background. I've been looking at my Sea Oats and have yet to find heads that are both aligned and separated.

Hi Carolyn :wavey: Love the color, and how the light falls on the seedheads edges, very creatively and artistically done

The red background elements make the green of the Sea Oats sing! Lovely color all around and I like the triad.
