Fireweed #3

Here is the 3rd (and last) in my fireweed series. In this one, I've walked in much closer to try and give a more intimate connection to the fireweed and show how it does spread back into the trees.

I've played some with brightness, saturation and contrast - using LR4. The warmth is from early morning light.

The slight painterly feel in the fireweed was in-camera, I think because most of the blooms were past-prime and there were lots of 'little remnant stems' where the flowers used to be (sorry, I don't know the correct term) on each plant that created a kind of mosaic.

Canon 7D, 70-300mm lens @ 128mm, 1/200s at f.16, ISO 400

C&C welcome, thanks for looking!

This is a nice find and well done. Ironically, I find that I like this even better without the greenery on the bottom of the image. It just has more of an impressionistic look with just the fireweed and trunks.

I like this one the best of all. Love the rich warm colors and the abstract feel, I find this very intimate and appealing. Nice job

Tom nailed it--much stronger w/o the green. Very pretty, Karen! :wavey:

What a neat shot. The fireweed is placed perfectly in the frame, so I wouldn't crop any of the bottom.

I love the painterly feel to this image - it is definitely my favorite of the series.

I like this a lot Karen. Delightful subject matter - I like the jutxaposition of life/death with the flowers/trees. I do think it could be even more attractive with a little additional post processing work to brighten the flower color a wee bit and perhaps a bit more sharpening, but I'll have to check on my monitor at home to confirm that. The only other suggestion I might offer is to crop a wee bit off the bottom (5%), and about 10-15% off the top to make the focal point more powerful.
