Black-headed Grosbeak

I caught this Black-headed Grosbeak in July, and thought it turned out well for the slow shutter speed in deep shade.

I appreciate your critiques and comments. Please view the larger version if possible.

f/7.1, 1/80, ISO 400

Crop to 94% of original (17 of 18 MP)

Canon 7D, 500mm + 1.4xTC, tripod, camo cloth, not baited, don't remember for sure but I probably dragged this stick over to the waterhole where I was sitting.

Nice detail and pose, Brian. For some reason, the beak looks a little "crunchy" in the large photo. Did it get a little extra sharpening?

Excellent detail, Brian and I like the pose. The image certainly doesn't come across as being taken in deep shade.

Nice! definitely doesn't look deep shade to me. I like the colors of the bird and the perch and BG.

A nice composition Brain. As mentioned, doesn't appear to be taken in deep shade. I wonder how this would look if you had allowed more of the natural low lighting to come through,

Very nice details & DOF, hard to believe it was deep shade Brian.
Cool bird, like the "messy" beak thing too. Great work! :toast:

I just saw my first BH Grosbeak this weekend in Madera Canyon. Wonderful pose and background colors. I would of never known this was in the shade. Good detail where it counts.
