Singing Spotted Towhee

I took this photo about 3 years ago and it still makes me happy to see this guy singing!

Canon Rebel XTi, ISO400, f/5.6, 400mm on a 100-400 zoom, 1/100 sec.

Thanks in advance for any comments and critiques. I'm wondering if the light yellow areas are too big a distraction??

Nice shot of the singing towhee! A good catch of the action. The OOF yellows in the BG, do not bother me, but I can see a bright spot in the URC which does. Thanks for sharing.

The question of distraction is an interesting one. To me, it is not a big distraction, as the bird and the perch command the frame very well. Subduing them a bit, at least cloning out the white center in the URC, might be worthwhile, and easy enough to do.

Nice shot, Kathy. The yellow doesn't bother me, but as Phil mentioned the white highlight spot could be removed. Great singing pose.

Neat singing pose. These guys can really belt it out. I would mainly increase the exposure on the bird. :toast:

Great singing pose Kathy, these birds are hard to catch on a perch - I see them on the ground foraging for the most part..
BG works for me, I would work on the small bright patch URC & bring up the bird itself a bit. Just my .02
Well done! :toast:

Very nice singing pose. The background doesn't bother me with the exception of the upper right corner. Of more concern is the brightness of the bird. The chest should be white. As posted, it is underexposed. Definitely need more light on the bird. Easily corrected with some selective brightening in Photoshop.

Hi Kathy. I like the yellow areas, gives the image some oomph. This species really elevates its head when singing, pretty cool. A little more light on the bird would have been "ideal", but still attractive as is. It's an extra step, but viewing a larger version is always helpful for critiques. ps.
