Red Dead Sunrise

Hi guys,

There are lots of familiar faces on NPN so I've decided to finally join in on the fun. Looking forward to a great community experience.

This image is a different take on a sunrise at Dead Horse Point State Park, Utah. Instead of facing the bend of the Colorado River, this view encompasses the valley on the opposite side with the La Sal Mountains in the background.

Welcome to NPN. This is a very good first post. I like the depth of the image and the drama in the sky. The foreground rock is balanced by the outcropping on the left and the mountains in the background. Fine image. It would be nice to see a larger image of this posted and some tech data.

Thanks Richard, highly appreciated! I'll make sure to post larger sizes in the future. It's a blend of several images captured at f/22, Nikon D800 + NIKKOR 24-120 f/4 at 24 mm.

Very nice shot. I went there at sunset and was dissapointed. I guess I picked the wrong time of day.

I find it interesting that you blended exposures. I saw a program given by George Lepp and he said the D800 has so much dynamic range you can do HDR from one exposure. He said it is the current dynamic range king.

And YES he is a CANON explorer of light!

Thanks everyone for your kind words! Rodney, the dynamic range of the D800 is incredible. That being said, I still needed to blend exposures here as the sky around the sunstar showed some blown highlights.

Very nice Alex. It's not often I like digital rendering of sunset or sunrise but this one works very well with nice even gradation away from the hot orb.

Stunning view. I like this angle better than the traditional of DHP. As mentioned dynamic range is spectacular..

A beautiful sunrise shot Alex. I like your comp with the positioning of the fg rocks. The contrast seems a little flat on the landscape section, but there is wonderful detail to enjoy throughout and nice color.

Welcome to NPN! Great light and a wonderful scene. I like how you've kept all the rock details in the valley.

Almost missed this one but I had to stop by and welcome you to NPN and the Landscape Gallery.

I'm really glad to see this view - not sure I've seen this either, so thanks for the different look. A beautiful sunrise, with a strong composition.
