"When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. But when you photograph people in Black and white, you photograph their souls!” ¯ Ted Grant

One of the areas I have been branching into more and more is the living portrait - capturing the individual in their natural environment, being themselves. I was visiting Peter in his current vocation (current as in the last 28 years) as proprietor of the Book Scout in Greenport. We were chatting and I asked permission to shoot him as can be seen here:

We were interupted by a slightly rude customer who stepped into the shoot and started talking to Peter, but in that break of mere seconds the real Peter came to the surface. I quickly switched gears and went for the shot I really wanted. This was my favorite.

Jim, there is something about Peter's eyes and face that draws me to get to know him better, to find out who he is. I think it takes courage to photograph people, especially portrait. I feel that you did a great job here. Love this B&W shot with light and shadows shaping Peter's face. :wavey:

I like this a lot, Jim. Such character in his face. B&W works great. Very well done.

Jim, this is what b&w street portraiture is supposed to be about. Classic. :toast:

Soul? A word that seems to mean a great variety of things to us. It is though the only word that seems right for your portrayal of this man. This is personal and wonderful.
