Buttermere Sunrise

by Gary McGhee

Taken a couple of weeks ago, I set off around midnight with the intentions of trying some star photography only to arrive not long after 3am and it was already getting bright. No star photography for me on this occasion.

This was the sunrise lighting up High Stile and High Crag on the western side of Buttermere.

All comments, good and bad are welcome and thanks for looking.

Gary.

1/6 sec at F/14, iso 200.

The symmetry you captured here is remarkable. I really like how the shadows almost mirror the ridgeline.
How did you do that?
Even the clear, crisp blue sky is an asset here.

Thanks John,

I guess I was just lucky with the shape of the fells behind me .

Simple but effective comp, looks great! Man, stars in this comp would have been really cool. :toast:

Beautiful image Gary, love the simplicity and simmetry--has kind of an abstract feel to it.

Gary, like the other comments here, I really like this shot. I like the composition and the color. The simplicity of the moment brings out the abstract nature of the photograph. I am kind of glad there weren't any stars because I like how simple it is and how perfect the reflection is. Many thanks for sharing.

Amazing symmetry that really draws me into the image, I really like that you can just see the rocks in the foreground water. Wonderful timing to get this, excellent shot, well seen.

A beautiful harmony of elements here Gary, and an excellent balance of highlight, shadow and colour. That centred patch of trees on the shore line really helps keep my eye in the frame.
