Traveling through endor

Here's my first post from my recent trip. This was taken along the damnation creek trail in the del norte coast redwoods. Walking amongst these giants reminded me of the planet endor from star wars. I was just waiting for ewoks to emerge from the tree tops. A surreal place full of life and color. Compression is wreaking havoc on this so I apologize. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Great texture in the ferns. There's a primeval feel about this which I like a lot.

Lovely capture. Very serene. I like the texture in the bark and ferns. You're right - there's probably an ewok party going on above.

The light on that bark really draws my eye, and the way you composed the ferns fits the scene well.

Personal taste, but I could almost do without the section to the right of the image. Think a slight crop would add more emphasis to the larger tree and the way the ferns take you into the scene. The ivy...or whatever it is, is slightly distracting.

Regardless, kick ass scene.

Thanks everyone.

Nicolaus, I see what you mean on the right side. I'm 50/50 about it. There was really no way to move over to the left or point my camera further left because there was a whole lot of empty. I like it in some aspects as it gives a more wild feel and that imperfectness of the forest. A bit chaotic, but the more and more I look at it it seems to work.

Very well done Peter. Photographing these gigantic trees is very difficult and I remember feeling completely overwhelmed the first time I tried to create an image there. I think you have done an excellent job here with a great foreground and lighting. I like how all of the foreground ferns point back towards the trees.

Thanks Scott. I honestly wished I could have spent most of my trip here. I barely scratched the surface of this incredible place and didn't have as much time to shoot as I hoped. I see a possible return next year but much earlier to get the rhododendron blooms at peak. Never got those crazy sunbeams but also wasn't able to shoot during the ideal times of the day.

As I recall, this is Endor. Wasn't that part of the series filmed in the redwoods? I like the relatively simple comp with ferns on bottom and trunks on top both defining their space quite nicely.

I'm pretty sure those parts of the film were shot here. The redwood forest is huge so it wouldn't surprise me if it was.
