Storm Surge

This was a view looking upstream shortly after my PREVIOUS POST on NH's Saco River. Fall foliage along these White Mountain rivers is usually the big draw, but I found the very low water levels exposed some colorful river rocks that would normally be submerged. The sky was exceptionally colorful this stormy morning and the textures were worth hanging out for even after sunrise. Despite the turbulent skies, the tree's leaves were perfectly still, and long expsosure times were never an issue.
3 exposures: 1 for the still portions of the image and some water, 1 exposure to maintain more detail in potions of the water, and another for the brightest portions of the sky.

I love your comp here, Harry--great perspective! Nice h2o exposure too. Two thoughts: 1) back off on the web sharpening of the trees etc. 2) The sky color (cyan/magenta) seems to clash with the water (very neutral). Id check one of the exposures and try to ensure the cast matches for sky and water. personally id probably add a bit of color to the water, and take away a bit of the sky to balance.

Terrific depth with the silky water leading through the boulder field to that amazing sky. Looks like a wall hanger to me.

Beautiful scene, Harry. I really like the drama in the sky and how the colors are reflected on the water. Great choice of shutter speed as well. :toast:

Harry, the kind of symmetry between the sky and the stream works very well for me. A strong and consistent composition to my eye.

Love the motion and color here Harry. Only minor nit is the wide angle distortion but the low perspective works extremely well.

Amazing Harry - kept exploring this one for quite some time. really like the sense of being in the stream.

For me, the rocks and pebbles are so interesting that they become the focal 'point', with the trees more or less becoming a 'minor' element - providing some context. The sky is simply icing on the cake

I like the differences in mood between the downstream shot (warm/calming) and the upstream shot (cool/invigorating). Both are excellent comps. I like the water action and the muted colors in this shot. The sky feels a little stronger in contrast than the rest of the scene, giving it a little bit of disconnection, but only slightly. Lovely shot Harry.

Very nice. Reminds me a lot of the Verzasca Valley in southern Switzerland. The geology certainly looks very similar.

Great sky topping off that nice scene. The trees seem to lean a bit, but that's likely the wide angle?

Lots to like- sky color, shutter speed, wet colored foreground rocks in the LLC, the angles, low perspective. The only nit would be the brighter patch of sky in the ULC.

This woks quite nicely. The textures in both the water and the clouds keep my attention.
