Red-necked Phalarope

Another photo from Nome Alaska. We found this little pond that was in-habitated by several species of birds. This phalarope performed a nice preening session within a few feet of a pair of resting Arctic Terns.

Canon MkIV, 600mm & 1.4x tele-converter, f9, 1/1000. ISO 640

I contemplated for a while and decided to remove a couple of distracting rocks on either side of the bird, cropped 15% all around.

All your comments and suggestions are very much appreciated

Ken Archer

Ken,

Love the pose and colors. The bird stands out well against the greenish water. That bird seems to be keeping a close eye on you.

Always a nice species to see. Colors are natural; detail loks good as does exposure.

What a cool looking bird. I've got to get out of the midwest more. I like the soft ripples of the water very much.

Nice, Ken. No nits from me. I like the quality of the water and the bird is tack sharp.

Great job on getting this difficult contrast shot. I like that you can see detail in the white feathers and that you got the head turn with eye contact. The background colors really compliment the scene, excellent shot Ken.
