Western Wood Lily (+ Repost)
by Roger Kirchen
Western wood lily (Lilium philadelphicum), commonly known as "Tiger lily", photographed in the foothils of the Alberta Rocky Mountains. This was taken in a protected nature area, but it is a wild flower.
This is one of my first flora pictures with my macro lens and tripod. Looking at it, there are a few things I would have done differently: lower ISO and smaller aperture (not sure the wind would have cooperated though) and an angle where the stigma does not partly cover up one of the stamens. I may have used a polarizer on this one.
Canon 7D, Sigma 150 macro, ISO 400, f/16, 1/10 sec, tripod. PP in LR4, mostly toning down the greens and cloning out a blemish on one of the petals. Also applied a negative vignette. No crop.
Thanks for looking. C & Cs are always welcome. Roger.

11 commentsBusy day for first time Flora postings. I like the angle of the shot, the color, detail and BG all look good to me. The top BG seems just a bit dark and hides the black tip of the long center stem. From one 7D user to another, Nice post.
Fine photo of the Wood Lily. Specially like the luminous background and the light on the Lily. If possible slightly lighten the top portion of the background, so that the dark tip of the Stigma (?) does not merge with the background at the top.

I like to add my welcome to the Flora gallery.
Fine first post in this gallery. Overall a beautiful capture of this lily. The re-post is definitely stronger. Not seeing any issue with noise so would not worry about the ISO here.
Beautiful shot !
